Landlords Lose Right to Evict, Close Single-Room Occupancy Hotels in 3 Cities

AB1217, authored by Mark Leno, D-San Francisco, and now in effect, prohibits owners of residential hotels from invoking the Ellis Act - a 1986 law that allows landlords leaving the housing market to evict tenants without providing replacement housing.
