Lawmakers want to expand oil drillers' liability for health issues

The proposed law appears to be a response a November ballot initiative backed by the petroleum industry.

A state bill that could make oil companies liable for health problems people suffer near their drilling sites passed its first committee test. If AB 3155 becomes law, the industry’s decision to challenge a 2022 drilling setback with a voter referendum could be a major reason why.
