9th Circuit asks why religious schools cannot get funds to teach disabled youth
Lawyers for the parents and two Orthodox Jewish schools sued the state and the Los Angeles Unified School District, arguing that the law violates Supreme Court precedents by eliminating those schools from consideration.
A 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals panel appeared sympathetic Tuesday to arguments by attorneys for Orthodox Jewish parents that a California requirement that schools receiving funds to instruct disabled children be nonsectarian is unconstitutional.
