Doing Right Thing Secures Attorneys' Place in History

Dennis Herrera didn't realize what he was creating when he gave Mayor Gavin Newsom the go-ahead to conduct marriages for same-sex couples in San Francisco. Herrera, San Francisco city attorney, was just trying to do the right thing. He didn't know that greenlighting the event would thrust his city into the middle of the national debate on the issue.
