Rehearing Set After Defendant Serves 16 Years

The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled Thursday that a defense lawyer's preparation for a murder trial - a cursory review of the preliminary hearing transcript and a brief interview with the client --- amounted to ineffective assistance of counsel and required further hearings to see if a reversal of the defendant's conviction was warranted.
