Liquid Assets

DENVER - Squabbling over water is a Western tradition. While Easterners laugh at what passes as a river here, only those in the West truly can understand the importance, and difficulty, in obtaining water in the arid climates of California, Arizona and Nevada. Compounded by rapid growth - particularly from such fast-growing desert cities as Los Angeles, Phoenix and Las Vegas - water resources quickly dry up, much of it going to service water-hungry communities.
