Veteran challenges DOMA in LA federal court

A decorated and disabled U.S. Army veteran on Wednesday sued to obtain spousal benefits for her same-sex partner in what is believed to be the first challenge to the Defense of Marriage Act brought by a veteran in the 9th Circuit.

LOS ANGELES - A decorated and disabled U.S. Army veteran on Wednesday sued to obtain spousal benefits for her same-sex partner in what is believed to be the first challenge to the Defense of Marriage Act brought by a veteran in the 9th Circuit.


Tracy Cooper-Harris, represented by WilmerHale and the Southern Poverty Law Center, filed the suit seeking a declaration finding DOMA unconstitutional.
