WASHINGTON - The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday unanimously struck down a California law that made it a crime to process livestock into food if the animals are too sick or tired to walk.
The federal law regulating the handling of livestock for human consumption contains a broadly worded preemption clause that expressly blocks states from imposing their own rules, the court ruled.
