Newt Gingrich's willingness to sacrifice the rule of law to get at some judges he disagrees with reminds me of the moving lines in Robert Bolt's play, "A Man for All Seasons." Impetuous Roper [substitute Gingrich for our purposes] tells Thomas More that he "would cut down every law in England [to get at the Devil]."
More wisely responds, "Oh, and when the last law was down, and the Devil turned...
