Looking ahead to 2012: Making court funding a priority

The numbers are staggering. To help close the state's latest budget crisis, California lawmakers slashed $350 million from the state judicial branch budget for fiscal 2011-12. It was the largest budget reduction in state court history, and combined with cuts from the prior year, this latest round means that California courts have experienced a 30 percent drop in general fund revenue during the past three years.
