Government review of alfalfa stands

A San Francisco federal judge upheld the use of genetically modified alfalfa on Thursday, ruling that the government did an adequate study of the environmental impacts of widespread planting of the crop.

A San Francisco federal judge upheld the use of genetically modified alfalfa on Thursday, ruling that the government did an adequate study of the environmental impacts of widespread planting of the crop.

The decision by District Court Judge Samuel Conti handed a victory to biotech giant Monsanto Corp., which created an alfalfa plant that withstands spraying of the company's herbicide while leaving the alfalfa unharmed.
