Intimidation by Border Patrol Bankrupts Immigration Policy

Forum Column - By Joann Lee and Susana Martinez - Recently, the U.S. Border Patrol, part of the Department of Homeland Security, arrested and detained hundreds of immigrants in the Inland Empire and northern San Diego County. The patrol conducted sweeps on the streets, in bus and metro stations, outside shopping areas, and in other places where people congregate. Of the 480 detained, 90 percent were of Mexican descent. The sweeps were conducted without full authorization from Washington, D.C.
