Dicta Column - By JoAnne Earls Robbins - Whenever a client favors his or her lawyer or a relative of the lawyer with a gift, it poses a serious danger to the lawyer. Such a gift includes anything of value bestowed directly or indirectly during the life of the client or through a will, trust or other instrument. So even though it is nice to receive a gift from someone, be very careful if it comes from a client, for the gift could be a burden in disguise.
