Earthquake Shake-up

Insurance companies should have learned some hard lessons in the wake of the Northridge earthquake, the insurance commissioner scandal and last year's signing of SB1899 (now Section 340.9 in the Code of Civil Procedure) giving Northridge earthquake victims extra time to file claims for earthquake damages. They should have learned not only that treating the public fairly and honestly is the right thing to do but also that failing to do so will only lead to legal and legislative comeuppance.
