Attorneys advise caution in tracking users

California's recently passed privacy law relating to tracking users appears to be very limited in scope, but attorneys still advice clients against tracking users or their devices without fully disclosing that activity in a privacy policy.

New technologies for tracking people's online activities are giving website and mobile app operators more avenues for profiling users without having to disclose that they are doing so under California's recently passed privacy laws, but attorneys say companies are stepping onto thin ice if they attempt to track devices without notifying users in their privacy policies.
