9th Circuit chief judge says court is staying open despite shutdown

The announcement does not address how other federal courts will work next week, and it leaves attorneys wondering whether civil cases will get short shrift if the shutdown continues.

Chief Judge Alex Kozinski announced Wednesday that the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals will remain open for business "for the duration" of the current federal government shutdown.


The decision appeared designed to ease doubts plaguing federal appellate practitioners unsure of their plans as some government functions falter.
