Woman who spanked daughter to get new hearing, appellate court rules

A state appellate court has ordered a new hearing for a mother who claims authorities wrongly accused her of child abuse for spanking her 12-year-old daughter with a wooden spoon.

A state appellate court has ordered a new hearing for a mother who claims authorities wrongly accused her of child abuse for spanking her 12-year-old daughter with a wooden spoon.

A Santa Clara County hearing officer did not give weight to the mother's right to impose reasonable discipline on her child and wrongly barred the daughter from testifying when making the determination, the 6th District Court of Appeal ruled.
