US Supreme Court: open for business as usual

This term the court seems to be reprising identical cases from the past, suggesting that some precedents may be contemplated for the judicial graveyard. By Douglas W. Kmiec

The Supreme Court is used to working solo, so last week when the court held its usual marathon cert review, or "long" session to evaluate petitions that had piled up over the summer, the justices hardly noticed that the rest of the government was at the Capitol Hill Starbucks. Indeed, Justice Samuel Alito probably only rolled his eyes with delight at the prospect of coming up I-95 without bumper-to-bumper traffic.
