Domestic workers win overtime protection

The victory shows the growing power of worker centers, or nonunion groups that battle for workers without using traditional collective bargaining tactics.

Domestic workers in California won a double victory this month. Not two weeks after the U.S. Department of Labor extended minimum wage and overtime protections to in-home cooks, baby sitters and caretakers to the elderly, Gov. Jerry Brown signed a domestic workers' rights bill into law.
