Electronic Arts to pay $40 million to college athletes in settlement

EA will pay $40 million to current and former student-athletes who claim the video game maker violated publicity right laws by using their likenesses in video games.

Electronic Arts Inc. will pay $40 million divvied between 100,000 to 300,000 current and former student-athletes who claim the video game maker violated publicity right laws by using their likenesses in video games.

Lead plaintiffs' counsel Steve W. Berman of Hagens Berman Sobol Shapiro LLP confirmed the terms of the settlement, but said it is still subject to approval from U.S. District Judge Claudia Wilken.
