Sacramento lawyer convicted of tax evasion

The attorney filed tax returns showing he earned over $1.5 million during 2000-03 but paid nothing, and hid his bank accounts when levied. He then filed no tax returns over the next few years.

Sacramento-area attorney Donald M. Wanland Jr., 53, was convicted Thursday of tax evasion during 2000-03, failing to file returns in 2005-07 and attempting to conceal assets from the IRS to get around income levies by that agency, according to the U.S. district attorney's office for the Eastern District of California.


Wanland faces a maximum statutory penalty for tax evasion of five years in prison and a $250,000 fine. T...
