Minor reforms to toxics-alert law passes Legislature

AB 227 would protect businesses from lawsuits for not posting signs mandated by Prop. 65.

A bill to stop frivolous lawsuits against small businesses passed its final vote in the Assembly late Wednesday and is headed to Gov. Jerry Brown's desk. AB 227 by Assemblyman Mike Gatto, D-Los Angeles, would protect businesses from lawsuits for not posting signs mandated by Proposition 65 to warn customers of naturally occurring carcinogens in cooked food, as well as on-site secondhand smoke or car exhaust.
