Commissioner Conversion Plan Flawed, Divorce Lawyers Say

With the enactment of Assembly Bill 159, the Administrative Office of the Courts in 2007 moved forward with plans to convert commissioner positions into judgeships. Some lawyers in San Francisco say moving commissioners out of those spots is decimating the court's family law bench.

It's tedious, emotional and tough for a new judge unfamiliar with the fundamental rules of the assignment, say San Francisco family law attorneys Christopher Emley and Raquel Sefton.
