Homeboy Has Stood Up for Others, Now It's Time to Stand for Homeboy

Columnist Martin Berg remembers the good works Homeboy Industries has done in Los Angeles, and says, don't forget to support it.

From the outside, Homeboy Industries' sunny offices near the Gold Line station in Los Angeles' Chinatown look about as prosperous and bustling as a gang intervention nonprofit can.

Its restaurant is filled with diners. The shelves of the bakery are loaded with treats. Young Asian-Americans, African-Americans, Latinos and others await Homeboy's many services: job placement; legal and mental health counseling; tattoo removal. Some of them will work in Homeboy's businesses...
