Congress Should Encourage, Not Impede, Development of Vaccines

Forum Column - By James Wood - The flu vaccine shortage has become a political talking point, bringing with it, unfortunately, an abundance of blame and scanty substantive proposals for change. This most recent crisis, coupled with the country's need to develop and stockpile vaccines to guard against threats of bioterrorism, are a reminder that, given the high costs of development as well as the limited potential market for any vaccine, the enterprise is a fragile one.
