Symbols Can't Change Past, But They Help Us Remember

Column - By Philip Carrizosa - What symbols are important to you? A wedding ring? The American flag? A crucifix? The importance of symbols has been in the news quite a bit lately. In Los Angeles, preservationists have been working overtime to save the Ambassador Hotel. The site of Robert F. Kennedy's 1968 assassination, the now-closed hotel would be demolished to make way for a badly needed kindergarten-through-high-school complex in a largely Latino neighborhood.
