Despite Lord's Name, Document Is Still Secular
Letter to the Editor - In his commentary ("In America, History of Secularism Begins With Constitution," April 25 Daily Journal), professor Edward H. Telfeyan states that there is no mention of God in the Constitution. True enough, the Constitution does not use the specific word "God." The Constitution does, however, refer to "our Lord" in the date of its signing, that is, "the seventeenth day of September in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and eighty-seven."
