SAN FRANCISCO - At 59, patent attorney James Sheridan should have been planning his retirement and improving his golf game. Instead, in January 2001, after 36 years of practicing patent law, Sheridan left a 13-year partnership at one of the oldest and most respected patent boutiques in Silicon Valley to join two young attorneys in opening a patent prosecution practice in Palo Alto.
