Extenuating Circumstances?

The California District Attorneys Association and California Attorneys for Criminal Justice estimate that the state seeks the death penalty in less than 10 percent of eligible cases. The district attorneys association estimates that prosecutors are successful in more than 50 percent of those cases. The following cases summarize the use of mitigating evidence at the sentencing phase of a capital trial:
