Fed Sets Federal Fund Rates at 2.25 Percent
By Emily Burg CREJ Managing Editor Despite mixed signs of economic growth, the Federal Reserve has raised interest rates for the fifth time this year. The Federal Open Market Committee on Dec. 14 unanimously voted to raise its target for the federal funds rate - the rate at which banks lend each other money overnight - by 25 basis points, to 2.25 percent. It also raised the discount rate by 25 basis points to 3.25 percent.
