In Carona Case, Judge Rejects Booting Prosecutors
At least the judge soon will know why the entire Los Angeles-based U.S. attorney’s office — except two Orange County prosecutors — removed itself from the corruption case against former Orange County Sheriff Mike Carona. U.S. District Judge Andrew J. Guilford last week rejected a defense request to kick those two Carona prosecutors off the case as well. But he accepted an offer from Assistant U.S. Attorneys Kenneth B. Julian and Brett A. Sagel to submit a written explanation to him privately laying out why they got to stay on the case while the other 262 lawyers in the Central District of California U.S. attorney’s office did not.
