Magistrate Decries Secret Filings, Prefers Openness

LOS ANGELES - Don't get him wrong. U.S. Magistrate Judge Patrick J. Walsh loves his job. But if Walsh could change one thing - and that's a big if - he would do away with secret filings in civil cases all together, except for good cause, such as in certain trade-secret or patent-infringement matters.
