White House to tap Latino for Riverside bench

The Obama administration appears poised to offer its first Latino nominee to the federal bench in the Central District. Jesus Bernal, a federal public defender, is the contender, sources say.

The Obama administration appears poised to offer its first Latino nominee to the federal bench in the Central District.


Jesus Bernal, a deputy federal public defender in Riverside, is the main contender for a judicial seat left vacant since September 2009, according to multiple sources with knowledge of his selection who requested anonymity because the process is supposed to remain secret.
