The opening salvo in the next big battle over gay rights was fired last week when Christian groups and others sought to shoot down California's new law banning gay conversion therapy.
Such therapies can range from psychological counseling to electroshock techniques and even to exorcisms, according to published reports. In many cases, patients have been harmed, advocates for the law contend.
