State high court to hear cases on sex offender residential requirements, juvenile life sentences

Any decision the court issues on sex offender residential requirements could have sweeping ramifications across the state.

The state Supreme Court recognized the ongoing legal ambiguity over when juveniles can be sentenced to life in prison without chance of parole when it agreed last week to review two appellate court decisions dealing squarely with that issue. The court also agreed to review an appellate court ruling declaring residential requirements for sex offenders in San Diego County unconstitutional.
