Beginning Jan. 1, 2013, depositions in California state cases will be limited to seven hours. Exceptions include expert witness and corporate-designee depositions, and employment and "complex" cases. Courts will be required to allow more time, if necessary, to "fairly examine" the deponent, or if the deponent, another person or any other circumstance delays the examination.
