Treating War Prisoners With Respect Is a Useful Policy Tool
When French lawyer Jacques Verges recently filed a complaint before the International Court of Justice in The Hague against the British government on behalf of former Iraqi head of state Saddam Hussein and former Iraqi Foreign Minister Tariq Assiz, Verges was met with derision in America. Saddam is, after all, a reviled dictator accused of gross human rights violations.
