State Bar General Counsel Starr Babcock will step down in January

State Bar General Counsel Starr Babcock will retire next year after about 25 years working for the bar and the state judiciary. He will continue as a pro bono mediator in the state prison healthcare litigation.

Starr Babcock, the general counsel for the State Bar, will retire after 3½ years as the bar's top lawyer and about 25 years working for the bar and the California court system, the bar announced Monday.


Babcock, 66, will stay on through January 2014 to assist with finding and transitioning to a new general counsel.
