California's New Law, First in Nation, Provides Up to Six Weeks Paid Leave

Focus Column - Employment Law - By Greg Garbacz - Beginning July 1, 2004, California workers will be able to take up to six weeks paid leave per year for the purpose of caring for a new child or a seriously ill family member. The comprehensive paid-leave statute, the Family Temporary Disability Insurance program, is believed to be the first of its kind in the United States.
