Refinancing Before an Exchange? Proceed With Caution

This fortunate cyclical event allows taxpayers to renegotiate their mortgages and other loans to receive cash and increase their cash flow by hundreds of dollars each month. As with many things in life, though, timing is everything, and taxpayers should be cautious of refinancing at the same time they perform a 1031 tax-deferred exchange.
