Chips Stacked Against Online Poker Bills

Two California lawmakers are betting that legalizing online poker could be the flush the state needs to boost its struggling finances, but some observers say the proposed laws face an uphill battle.

Online poker still has one thing in common with the card club saloons of the Gold Rush era - there's rarely a sheriff in town, since state and federal enforcement efforts have proven tough to coordinate.


Internet gaming companies that are eyeing the current legislative effort in Sacramento to legalize, and regulate, online gambling say that's not likely to change this year.
