Court: Opt-Out Class Action Violates Privacy

The state appellate panel's decision in a case involving claims over syphilis treatment could have wide ramifications for both patient privacy law and class action settlements.

LOS ANGELES - In a unanimous decision that could have ramifications for both class-action settlements and patients' privacy in California, a state appeals panel Wednesday ordered a trial court to shield the names of potential members of a class action who received treatment for syphilis.
