Judges Gives Green Light in FCPA Trial

In a ruling that could bolster prosecutions, a federal judge in Los Angeles has ruled that officials at a state-owned corporation qualify as government officials under the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act.

LOS ANGELES - In a decision that could bolster other prosecutions, a federal judge Friday ruled that agents of a state-owned corporation in another country do qualify as government officials under federal anti-bribery laws.


As a result, any U.S. citizen caught bribing executives of such a state-owned company can be criminally prosecuted under the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, U.S. District Judge A....
