City's pension plans rile unions

San Jose will move forward with a controversial measure to reform the city's pension structure despite legal threats from labor unions and an audit approved Wednesday by state lawmakers.

Facing an audit by state officials and pushback from labor unions, San Jose is moving forward with a controversial measure to reform the city's pension structure.


The decision comes as cities and counties throughout the state are eying pension reform as a way to close budget gaps, and many are looking to San Jose as a test of how to proceed.
