Letter to the Editor - In addressing the Terri Schiavo controversy, Judith Daar extols the "good old checks and balances" in our system of government and praises their "way of grounding the grandiose and repressing the reactionary." "Legal System Stands Strong, Avoids Constitutional Crisis," March 25 Daily Journal) As a professor of law, Daar is aware of the separation of powers doctrine in the U.S. Constitution. Under that doctrine, only Congress is permitted to make law, not the federal courts.
