Duplicitous, Self-Serving France Is No U.S. Friend

Forum Column - By Joseph Sorrentino - French Premier Jacques Chirac opposed U.S. military action in Iraq based on "respect for law." French leaders long have been preaching a respect for law while pursuing a foreign policy overridden by economic and geopolitical objectives, or what Adolph Berle labels "Machiavellian nationalism." The evidence is overwhelming that France is duplicitous, hypocritical and self-serving and has not been a friend of the United States since the American Revolution.
