Chip Makers Join Forces to Better Attack High-Definition TV Market

Chip maker Zoran Corp. of Santa Clara has agreed to buy Oak Technology Inc. for $358 million in cash and stock. Both companies manufacture chips for consumer electronics. Zoran makes chips used in DVDs and digital cameras. Sunnyvale-based Oak manufactures chips used for televisions and digital imaging, selling its products to customers such as Samsung Electronics and Philips Electronics.
