SAN FRANCISCO - In an opening brief to the state Supreme Court challenging California's ban on same-sex marriage, the San Francisco city attorney's office said the law perpetuates a "long and shameful history of state-sponsored persecution of homosexuality" that should be struck down because it violates core constitutional rights.
