Reforming Just-in-Time Justice
Forum Column - By Michael S. Fields - Some of us aging attorneys recall the days when it took nearly five years to start a trial. A trial-setting conference usually would be held about 21/2 years after filing the complaint, and the court would set the trial date for about a year later. When we appeared on the scheduled trial date, it nearly always was continued for another year. The second trial date, at 41/2 years after filing, usually also would not proceed as scheduled.
