High court to consider challenge how patent agency handles appeals

The U.S. Supreme Court agreed Friday to review a case that could drastically change how thousands of patent disputes are decided.

The U.S. Supreme Court agreed Friday to review a case that could drastically change how thousands of patent disputes are decided at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

Petitioner Cuozzo Speed Technologies LLC is looking to overturn how the patent office's trial arm, the Patent Trial and Appeal Board, broadly defines terms of a challenged patent. Cuozzo Speed Technologies LLC v. Lee, 15-446.
